The layout resembles the Chinese character shang meaning above or ascend. Designed by Hermann Tilke. The snail-shaped turn 1 complex is unique in motorsport. Hosts the Chinese Grand Prix since 2004 with a gap from 2020-2023. Located in the Jiading district. The massive grandstand seats 200,000 spectators. The paddock facilities are among the most modern in the world.
